Workshops for Professionals

For Physicians:

How to handle difficult patients (3 hours)

LGBT-Related Issues:

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) population are at an increased risk for stress and suicidal ideation. This is especially true on eastern Long Island where the community is more isolated and fewer resources are available in comparison to their urban counterparts. Having a greater knowledge of their community and their issues is imperative.

I offer:

BulletWorkshops for schools, including teachers and staff,  to address bullying, increase awareness and provide a greater general knowledge of LGBT issues.

BulletWorkshops for medical service providers, including primary care physicians, gynecologists and endocrinologists. Becoming competent in working with the LGBT community is not only important, it is necessary. In the case of working with transgender individuals, trainings/workshops can be tailored for your needs, i.e. working with hormone replacement therapy or gynecological care for transgender female-to-males.

BulletConsultations for individuals or organizations on LGBT issues, specifically gender issues. Possible topics: Cultural competency, clinical work with LGBT population, medical care, sensitivity training, etc. We welcome further suggestions based on your needs and interests.

For Mental Health Professionals:

Consultations for those Working with LGBT people

LGBT people utilize mental health services at high rates, but often they leave treatment due to a lack of understanding on part of the provider. It is vital that those providing mental health services are knowledgeable about needs of LGBT people and their families.
